…visit Otto, Otumara Communities, Ebute Metta, Lagos Mainland, as rulers/residents pledge support for the Programme
The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have sought the support and understanding of Lagos residents, particularly, the Traditional rulers of Otto and Otumara Communities, both in Ebute metta within the Mainland region of Lagos State.
This was disclosed during the visit of the Corporation and USAID to the Communities on Thursday 6th April, 2023.
The Oloto of Otto and Lagos Mainland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abisoye Odesanya Okeyide (Olupejobi II), ably represented by the High Chief Jubril Aro, Baale Otumara, Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye and entire residents were in joyous mood to receive the delegates of the Corporation and USAID who had come to seek their support towards the commencement and realisation of the Programme.
In his introductory statement, the LWC Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus, represented by LWC Deputy Director Distribution Department, Engr. Saheed Olatunji said “this visit is to acquaint the team with the host Communities and to announce the commencement of the Programme”
Engr. Olatunji further stressed that the partnership is aimed at improving water supply in the communities, as the project would be sponsored by USAID, in partnership with the Lagos State government to improve on the quality of life of Lagos residents.
He added “As we berth in these communities, we deemed it fit to pay homage to the Traditional rulers and seek their support to bringing the project to life””
On his part the representative of USAID team, Engr. Joechim Ezeji urged the Traditional rulers to help in the area of sensitization and Enlightenment of residents of the areas for total cooperation and support.
In their separate statements, the Traditional rulers pledged their support and cooperation for the realization of the program.
The Oloto of Otto and Lagos Mainland, through his spoke person, High Chief Jubril Aro expressed delight for the laudable project and thanked the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his commitment towards improving water supply in the State.
In the same vein, the Baale of Otumara community, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, commended the partnership between the Lagos Water Corporation and USAID for the birth of the project.
He said, “We give thanks to God for inspiring this project. Otumara community and indeed the entire Ebute Metta district is a large community but as large as it is, we have a shortage of potable water supply.
“Our people cannot wait for the project to see the light of the day, as the Communities need water.”
Environment Africa had earlier reported that USAID had visited LWC Headquarters, Water-House, Ijora, Lagos on Tuesday 4th April, 2023 to unveil CHEMONICs as a contractor for the improvement of water supply in the state, which will include support in the improvement of the governance and regulatory framework in Lagos State. These visits are part of the awareness and sensitization component to enhance community appreciation and support for the water supply projects before kickoff.
