President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr Yusuf Maina-Bukar as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW).
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Saghir El-Mohammed, spokesman of the federal ministry of environment.
His appointment is for a four-year term and takes effect from April 4, 2022, according to the statement.
It is related to the Great Green Wall initiative in Africa, which was conceived in 2007 by the African Union to address land degradation, boost food security and support communities to adapt to climate change in sub-Saharan Africa.
In a linkedin post on his page, Dr Maina Bukar stated that ‘The task ahead is going to be challenging, yet fulfilling and interesting irrespective of the current circumstances at the focus areas in the country. Nevertheless, Climate Change Adaptation, Restoration and Regeneration of the Environment has and will always be an interest we so much value. Let us all unite and work together to achieve our set goals and objectives.’
