The Rural Electrification Agency (REA), in collaboration with the Ondo State Government, has announced the hosting of a REA–Ondo State Strategic Roundtable on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Abuja.
Themed “From Access to Impact: Unlocking Ondo’s Renewable Energy Potential for Economic Transformation and Socioeconomic Inclusion,” the event is part of the REA’s State-by-State Initiative, designed to promote rural electrification and stimulate private sector investment while strengthening state-level electricity markets.
In a statement released earlier today, the roundtable is expected to bring together key stakeholders in the renewable energy ecosystem—including public sector leaders, private investors, and development finance institutions—to explore opportunities for collaboration and growth in Ondo’s energy sector.
According to the statement, the initiative aligns with recent developments following the passage of the 2023 Electricity Act by Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which enabled the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to transfer regulatory oversight to the newly established Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB).
This regulatory shift, the statement noted, marks a critical step toward attracting targeted investments and accelerating energy access in the State.
Under the guidance of the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and the leadership of Abba Abubakar Aliyu, MD/CEO of the REA, the Strategic Roundtables serve as a platform for public-private partnerships. The event will focus on actionable, data-driven strategies and innovative business models to enhance energy access and economic development at the state level.
The statement concluded with an invitation by the REA to all stakeholders across Nigeria’s renewable energy sector to join this important dialogue to collectively advance the implementation of the 2023 Electricity Act and the National Electrification Strategy and Implementation Plan (NESIP).
