- 100,000+ Residents to Enjoy Clean Water Access
The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has announced the commencement of test-running operations at the newly rehabilitated Akilo Waterworks, marking a significant milestone in efforts to restore public water supply to residents of Ifako-Agege and its surrounding communities in the Agege Local Government Area.
This development follows months of extensive rehabilitation work aimed at revitalising the aging infrastructure and improving access to safe and reliable water for over 100,000 residents. The rehabilitation, which began in February 2025, reflects the Lagos State Government’s ongoing commitment to sustainable urban water management and enhanced quality of life for Lagosians.
In a statement shared with residents, the Corporation explained that the current phase involves critical test-running of the Waterworks system, including the long-dormant distribution network. The goal is to detect and address any leakages or operational issues before transitioning to full-scale water distribution.
“We are beginning the crucial phase of the test-running of the revitalised Waterworks, alongside rigorous checks of the distribution network, which has been dry for an extended period. This will help us identify and fix any leakages before we begin full operation,” the statement read.
However, LWC issued a strong advisory to the public, warning residents against consuming the water during this testing period, which runs from Friday, July 4th to Saturday, July 12th, 2025.
“During this test-running phase, the water flowing through the distribution network is not safe for drinking or domestic use. Please, do not consume the water until further notice,” the Corporation cautioned.
Residents are encouraged to cooperate with the Corporation by reporting any leaks or burst pipes in their areas to help ensure a smooth rollout. As Lagos continues to expand and modernize its public utilities, the Akilo Waterworks rehabilitation stands as a key infrastructure initiative poised to enhance water access in underserved areas and bring long-awaited relief to the residents of Ifako-Agege.
