The Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) has launched an ambitious and forward-thinking strategic agenda under its newly inaugurated National Executive Committee, led by National President Mr. Chris O. Osarumwense.
The unveiling took place during the executive’s official swearing-in, where a strong call was made to reposition the association as a transformative force in Nigeria’s oil and gas human capital development landscape.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Funmi Ogbue, and made available to the press in Lagos, the new leadership outlined a seven-point strategic roadmap designed to enhance national impact and elevate OGTAN’s profile on the global stage.
Addressing members during his inaugural speech, Mr. Osarumwense expressed gratitude for the mandate given to the new team, pledging to lead with diligence, integrity, and vision.
“The mandate given to us is a solemn call to action. We are committed to delivering on our promises with the highest standards of professionalism and accountability,” he declared.
Highlights of OGTAN’s New Strategic Agenda:
1.Strategic Partnerships and Affiliations
OGTAN will forge stronger collaborations with global training institutions, Nigerian universities, and polytechnics to bridge the industry-academia gap and foster robust knowledge exchange.
2. Certification and Accreditation Authority
Plans are in motion to position OGTAN as a credible certificate-awarding institution, complete with strict quality assurance systems and expanded trainer and facility accreditation.
3. Adoption of International Standards and Innovation
The new EXCO is committed to integrating cutting-edge training technologies and harmonised curricula that meet global workforce demands in the evolving energy space.
4. Enhancing Member Value and Business Growth
OGTAN will work actively to promote member services and secure more favourable engagement terms with International Oil Companies (IOCs) and government stakeholders.
5. Strengthening Advocacy and Global Presence
Deepening relationships with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and increasing OGTAN’s footprint in international policy forums are key to strengthening its voice in energy development discourse.
6. Expansion of OGTAN Energy Consult Limited (OECL)
OECL is set to become a full-scale, revenue-generating consulting arm offering curriculum design, training needs assessments, and industry-aligned strategic solutions.
7. Financial Viability and Independence
A diversified funding model involving membership dues, service-based revenues, sponsorships, and transparent financial systems will drive OGTAN’s long-term sustainability.
Mr. Osarumwense reiterated the importance of collective action, emphasizing that the success of the association’s transformation will rely heavily on the engagement and support of its members.
“Together, we will build a more influential, responsive, and prosperous OGTAN,” he affirmed.
With this bold strategic shift, the new leadership is charting a path for OGTAN to emerge not just as a national leader in training and capacity development, but also as a respected international partner in Nigeria’s sustainable energy transition and workforce empowerment agenda.
