Seplat Energy Trains 50 Journalists on Media Entrepreneurship in Lagos
Lagos, Nigeria – Seplat Energy Plc, in collaboration with ELOH Consulting Ltd., has successfully concluded a two-day media entrepreneurship training programme for 50 journalists drawn from Capital Market, Judiciary, Finance, and Business beats.
The intensive workshop, held on June 25–26, 2025, in Lagos, aimed to equip media professionals with essential entrepreneurial, business, and leadership skills to thrive in today’s dynamic media and economic landscape.
According to a statement from the company, the initiative forms part of Seplat’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to promote capacity building and economic empowerment.
Representing Seplat’s Director of External Affairs and Social Performance, Mrs. Chioma Afe, the company’s Corporate Communications Manager, Mr. Stanley Opara, delivered a keynote emphasizing the need for journalists to evolve as entrepreneurs and innovation drivers within the media ecosystem.
“This initiative goes beyond journalism; it’s about preparing participants for sustainable business leadership,” said Afe in the statement.
The training featured a stellar lineup of facilitators and subject-matter experts:
Prof. Pat Utomi, renowned political economist, delivered an inspiring session on “Can Managers or Professionals (like Journalists) Make Good Entrepreneurs?”
Dr. Solomon Avbioroko, former Coca-Cola International executive and LBS faculty, shared insights on strategic business management.
Mr. Olu Onakoya, ex-Managing Director of Mobil Nigeria, spoke on corporate governance and leadership.
Mr. Nnamdi Uwaemelulam addressed the impact of media technology on business sustainability.
Ms. Uloma Okoro led a session on “Developing a Business Model and Writing Winning Business Plans,” offering practical tools for launching or scaling businesses.
A special panel brought together key figures from Nigeria’s top anti-corruption and intelligence agencies, including:
Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)
Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS)
The session fostered dialogue on intelligence, anti-corruption, media integrity, and the broader legal landscape shaping journalism and business in Nigeria.
Participants described the workshop as practical, timely, and empowering, noting that it expanded their perspective on entrepreneurship and media innovation.
