Genesis Energy, Desert Technologies Seal Strategic Deal to Deliver Clean Energy to 600 Million Africans
In a major move to accelerate access to clean energy across Africa, Genesis Energy Holding, a pan-African clean energy infrastructure development company, and Desert Technologies, a leading Saudi-based solar power solutions provider, have signed a strategic collaboration agreement aimed at delivering electricity to over 600 million Africans currently without access.
The landmark agreement was signed during the 27th Africa Energy Forum (AEF), building upon an earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Dubai between Genesis Chairman, Akinwole II Omoboriowo, and Desert Technologies CEO, Khaled Sharbatly.
The new partnership will focus on the joint development, deployment, and financing of scalable clean energy solutions across the African continent, with the aim of driving sustainable electrification, supporting economic development, and aligning with global climate goals.
In a joint statement issued from Jeddah and London, the two companies reaffirmed their shared vision for transforming Africa’s energy access through innovative, inclusive, and localized clean energy infrastructure.
Akinwole II Omoboriowo, Chairman of Genesis Energy Holding, emphasized the importance of the alliance, stating:
“This collaboration with Desert Technologies marks a significant step in GENESIS’s mission to expand access to clean, reliable power across Africa. With the urgency of the energy access challenge, strategic partnerships like this are critical to delivering long-term impact at scale.”
Khaled Sharbatly, CEO of Desert Technologies, added:
“This strategic partnership with Genesis marks a new chapter in D-T’s mission to expand Saudi innovation into high-impact global markets. By combining our smart infrastructure solutions with Genesis’ proven development platform, we are laying the groundwork for a long-term alliance that will accelerate Africa’s clean energy transformation—one project, one community at a time.”
With this agreement, Genesis and Desert Technologies aim to deliver renewable energy projects that are not only commercially viable but also socially transformative, particularly for underserved and rural communities.
The collaboration comes at a critical time, as Africa grapples with the dual challenge of energy poverty and climate vulnerability, and as governments and development partners intensify efforts to deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 — universal access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy.
