In a bold push to drive energy access and investment in Nigeria’s sub-national electricity markets, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is partnering with the Zamfara State Government to convene a high-level strategic roundtable aimed at catalyzing renewable energy innovation and investment.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, is part of REA’s ongoing State-by-State Strategic Roundtables initiative designed to support state governments in developing robust and sustainable electricity markets aligned with the provisions of the 2023 Electricity Act.
According to a statement released today, June 30, 2025, this edition of the roundtable reflects Zamfara State’s renewed focus on infrastructure development, clean energy, and inclusive economic growth under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal.
This is especially as Zamfara state, recognizing energy as a foundation for social justice and economic transformation, has intensified efforts to position itself as an investment-friendly hub for energy developers and financiers.
As part of these reforms, the Zamfara State Government has strengthened key institutions such as the Zamfara Electricity Agency (ZEA) and the Zamfara Geographic Information System (ZAGIS)—two critical bodies that will play a vital role in removing entry barriers, enhancing investor confidence, and streamlining processes across the energy value chain.
The roundtable, according to the REA, will bring together stakeholders from across the clean energy ecosystem—including policymakers, investors, project developers, donors, and technical experts—to co-create viable models and data-driven solutions tailored to Zamfara’s unique energy landscape.
The REA, under the leadership of Managing Director/CEO Abba Abubakar Aliyu, continues to play a catalytic role in bridging public-private sector collaboration across states. Backed by the strategic guidance of the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the roundtable initiative will serve as a springboard for innovative partnerships and actionable commitments that can accelerate energy access in underserved regions.
With Zamfara stepping up its commitment and institutional readiness, this roundtable is expected to set a new precedent in subnational energy planning and decentralized power development in Nigeria.
