In a major stride toward enhancing sub-national energy markets and fostering impactful public-private collaboration, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is convening the REA–Yobe State Roundtable themed “Powering Yobe, Powering Growth: Unlocking Energy Access for Agriculture, Innovation, and Local Investment.” The strategic engagement is scheduled to take place on June 26, 2025, at Fraser Suites, Abuja, by 10:00 AM.
As part of REA’s ongoing efforts to implement the provisions of the 2023 Electricity Act, the Roundtable will bring together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s clean energy ecosystem—including private sector players, development finance institutions, and public sector leaders—to chart a path toward sustainable energy solutions and investment opportunities, specifically tailored to the energy landscape of Yobe State.
Following the passage of the 2023 Electricity Act by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Yobe State Government has established the Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion office (YAPPPIP).
Spearheaded by the Executive Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, YAPPPIP is tasked with designing and driving frameworks that attract private capital, facilitate partnerships, and enable energy investments in the state.
These institutional mechanisms have laid the foundation for expanding Yobe’s renewable energy market and opening doors for inclusive energy development.
Under the guidance of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the Honourable Minister of Power, REA’s State-by-State Strategic Roundtables have become a dynamic platform for advancing the goals of the National Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Led by Abba Abubakar Aliyu, the Managing Director/CEO of REA, these forums promote collaboration, innovation, and data-driven policy and investment strategies tailored to each state’s unique energy context.
The upcoming Yobe-focused Roundtable will explore:
- Scalable business models and financing opportunities for decentralized renewable energy projects.
- Practical approaches to integrating clean energy into agriculture, local industry, and innovation hubs.
- State-level pathways to optimize the benefits of the Electricity Act through localized implementation.
- Strengthening of public-private partnerships for sustainable infrastructure and service delivery.
- Technological options for ensuring sustainable, inclusive, and resilient electricity access.
With a sharp focus on enabling real-world impact, the REA–Yobe Roundtable marks yet another milestone in the agency’s mission to catalyze energy access, support economic growth, and deepen investment in Nigeria’s decentralized energy space.
