The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has adopted a new strategy of planting trees within residential estates to improve the survival rate of trees planted across the state.
This was revealed on Friday by the General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, during a routine tree-planting exercise at Benson Olusola Housing Estate, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, where she was represented by the Head of Tree Planting and Maintenance, Mrs. Adebimpe Kuponu.
According to Popoola, the Agency is extending its greening efforts to more estates across the three Senatorial Districts of Lagos State to ensure that tree planting is not just widespread but impactful.
She noted that several estates, including Banana Island, Victoria Garden City (VGC), Epe Alaro City, and Dolphin Estate, have already benefited from LASPARK’s tree-planting campaign, with impressive tree growth and survival rates recorded in these areas.
Highlighting the significance of tree planting, Popoola stated, “Trees are life. Planting more trees means cleaner air, healthier lives, and a more sustainable environment.”
As the state prepares for the 2025 Annual Tree Planting Day scheduled for July 14, the General Manager urged residents to embrace tree planting not as a once-in-a-year event but as an ongoing lifestyle and a civic responsibility.
“Planting trees offers numerous benefits, restoring our natural environment, mitigating climate change, enhancing air quality, and promoting sustainable development. Beyond aesthetics, trees are essential for biodiversity and ecosystem protection,” she added.
Popoola further encouraged individuals, communities, and organisations to commemorate special occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, or memorials, by planting trees. “This way, we not only celebrate meaningful moments but also contribute to building a greener and healthier Lagos,” she stated.
