The Made In Nigeria Project Office (MainPro) is set to make a significant impact at the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Baku, Azerbaijan, holding in November, 2024.
MainPro will be hosting a Nigerian Pavilion at the GreenZone, which will offer opportunities to showcase Nigeria’s locally resourced climate friendly technologies, innovations, and products to an international audience.
This was disclosed at a press briefing held earlier today by top executives including Hon. Nwabueze George, National Project Coordinator, Mr Oladunjoye Musiliu A., Director, International Organization Department (IOD). They were accompanied by Niyi Odekanyin, Chief Cultural Officer (CCO) of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, and Barr Titi Akosa, MainPro Lagos State Coordinator. The MainPro Office and IOD are domiciled under the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (OSGF).
According to the National Project Coordinator, Hon. Nwabueze George, the Made In Nigeria Pavilion is solely organized by MainPro and will be hosted at the GreenZone. The Greenzone at COP29 is a space provided by the host country where non-official delegates and observers can exhibit and showcase various contributions to climate actions.
The Nigerian pavilion will feature a range of interactive exhibits and activities, including:
- A display of Nigerian climate-friendly products and services.
- Interactive sections with Nigerian climate experts and policymakers.
- Community-led climate initiatives.
- Arts and culture exhibitions highlighting the impacts of climate change.
“We need to start demonstrating Nigeria’s progress towards achieving the Paris Agreement goals; foster knowledge sharing and expertise among Nigeria stakeholders”, says George.
Extending an invitation to stakeholders including state governments, private sector companies and all climate innovators, the MainPro Boss enjoined,
“We encourage all stakeholders to apply to host side events and pick an exhibition space at the Nigerian pavilion at COP29.
“Let’s work together to promote climate action, sustainable development, and a green future for Nigeria and the world through showcase of Nigerian products, innovations and expertise”.
“The project’s focus on climate change is a reflection of Nigeria’s commitment to addressing the global climate crisis, says Barr Titi Akosa.
“Nigeria is a signatory to the Paris Agreement and has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030. The country is also investing in renewable energy and other climate-friendly technologies”, stated Akosa.
Akosa, who was recently appointed as the Lagos State Coordinator of Made In Nigeria, is an expert in climate change and development intervention.
Reiterating her remarks, she said “The Made in Nigeria project is expected to be a major highlight of the Global Climate Conference in Baku. The conference is a key event for the international community to discuss and address the challenges of climate change. The Nigerian pavilion will provide a platform for Nigeria to showcase its progress in climate action and to attract investment and collaboration from international partners”.
She also disclosed that in addition to hosting the Nigerian pavilion, the Made in Nigeria project will also be participating in a number of side events at the conference. These events will provide an opportunity for Nigerian experts and policymakers to share their knowledge and expertise with an international audience.
This is expected to help contribute towards a positive reflection of Nigeria’s commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change. It will also deepen Nigerian content at the Global Climate Change Conference.
The Made in Nigeria project is a government initiative aimed at promoting Nigerian products and services both domestically and internationally.
MainPro is a major step forward in Nigeria’s efforts to promote its products and services on the global stage.
The project is expected to have a significant impact on the Nigerian economy by increasing exports and creating jobs.
This it is expected to do by promoting Made In Nigeria products, technologies and innovations at local, regional and global fora as well as bringing together necessary inputs for sustainability of the Made In Nigeria Project.
