The Lagos State Government has charged facility management organisations engaged in managing the Government-owned housing estates to be innovative and proactive in managing equipment and facilities of the State Government estates in their care.
The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, stated this in his address at a workshop organised by the Ministry for all facility management companies handling the State-owned estates spread across Lagos State.
The Commissioner urged facility managers at the workshop, held recently at the Ministry’s Conference Room to acquaint themselves with guidelines and standards put in place in all the State Housing Estates and to enhance their skills and knowledge in proactive management and maintenance of the housing estates.
Hon Akinderu-Fatai advised the facility managers to put their professional skills to optimum use and prevent the degeneration of facilities and the environment where the estates are located.
The Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola reinforced the importance of the training, which is to improve facility managers’ overall maintenance skills and customer satisfaction ethos. The Permanent Secretary stated that the primary responsibility of the facility is to ensure that the estates remain clean, hygienic and environmentally friendly all year round.
The Lagos State Ministry of Housing, in line with the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, created a facility management unit in 2024. This has facilitated the engagement of facility management firms for all new and existing estates owned by the State Government. This deliberate initiative has enhanced the professional maintenance of infrastructure and facilities with a direct impact on sustainability.
The State Government’s commitment to ideal, functional and sustainable family life is reflected in the quality of facilities provided in all estates built by this administration. The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has made it mandatory for facility managers to be engaged in the management of all existing and new State-owned housing estates.
