The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has emphasized the Commission’s unwavering dedication to delivering impactful projects and accelerating sustainable development for all ethnic groups within the Niger Delta.
Dr. Ogbuku gave this assurance during a courtesy visit by a delegation led by Eze (Dr.) Godspower Onuekwa, President General of the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation Worldwide, at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Speaking during the meeting, the NDDC Chief Executive stressed the Commission’s inclusive approach, reaffirming that its mandate is to serve all communities in the region while fostering sustainable progress. “The NDDC is committed to delivering impactful initiatives that benefit every ethnic group in the Niger Delta,” Ogbuku stated.
He highlighted the alignment of the Commission’s activities with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the NDDC has embarked on transformative projects to uplift the lives of Niger Delta residents. One such initiative is the Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement (Project HOPE), an innovative program designed to empower the region’s youth.
Dr. Ogbuku explained that Project HOPE has enabled the Commission to create a robust digital database capturing vital information about Niger Delta youths, including their skills, qualifications, interests, and employment status. “This program allows us to strategically engage and empower our youth for meaningful development,” he added.
During the interaction, the NDDC boss urged the Ogbakor Ikwerre delegation to promote peace in the region, emphasizing that sustainable development thrives only in a secure and harmonious environment. “I encourage you to support President Tinubu’s policies and work towards ensuring peace within your communities,” he appealed.
Dr. Ogbuku further assured the Ikwerre delegation of the Commission’s commitment to executing legacy and regional projects. He revealed plans to illuminate communities in the Niger Delta through solar-powered streetlights, a move aimed at enhancing security and curbing criminal activities.
In his response, Eze Godspower Onuekwa appealed to the NDDC to extend more development projects to Ikwerre land to improve the quality of life for its residents. He commended Dr. Ogbuku’s visionary leadership, stating, “Your achievements are visible across the Niger Delta, and we congratulate you on a well-deserved appointment.”
Eze Onuekwa also raised concerns about abandoned projects, blaming unscrupulous contractors for undermining the Commission’s objectives. He recommended involving the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation in monitoring projects to ensure accountability and effectiveness.
The meeting underscored a shared commitment to fostering peace and accelerating sustainable development across the Niger Delta region.
