Lamenting the repeated spate of building collapses in Lagos State, the young Action Alliance Governorship candidate for Lagos, Alhaji Tope Balogun has extended his commiserations to the families of those that have lost their lives and those trapped in the recent as well as previous incidents in the state.
This was disclosed in a press statement obtained by Environment Africa Magazine, on the backdrop of the most recent building collapse incident.
In the statement, Balogun, opined that the recent collapse among numerous others that happened in recent times shows a high level of damning evidence and complicity of the Lagos state government.
This is coming after the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Gbenga Omotosho, resigned from the incumbent cabinet citing impunity from the part of the developers of those buildings whom were among the “untouchable elites”.
“It is regrettable that some individuals are allowed to become so powerful than the State agencies empowered to mitigate disaster that have to do with human life such that they illegally unsealed with recklessness the restraining order given by those saddled with such responsibility” Says Balogun.
“Unfortunately, construction works were allowed to continue despite the life threatening situation such irresponsible action portrayed”, he disclosed.
Emphasizing his deep antipathy, Alh. Balogun further stated “It is just a further confirmation of the ineptitude of the present government who once said some forces beyond their control ordered the Lekki shooting sometimes ago”.
The statement ended with a prayer for the repose of the souls departed and an admonishment to ensure this avoidable unfortunate incidents are put to halt in due course.
