- German climate activists belonging to the Last Generation group that joined protests on the island of Sylt last summer are facing charges brought by the public prosecutor’s office.
The group is also accused of disrupting public operations by interfering with operations at the airport, the Flensburg public prosecutor’s office said on Friday.
Another indictment concerns incidents at a hotel in Westerland and in Kampen on Sylt and the occupation of a private motor yacht in Neustadt/Holstein, which allegedly was damaged with paint.
In addition, the public prosecutor’s office initiated a separate investigation concerning parts of the Last Generation group regarding participation in a criminal organization, but these investigations are not directed towards the defendants accused of being active on the island.
The public prosecutor’s office said these charges are based on findings about the group’s organizational structure and attacks on transport and supply infrastructure in several German states.
