In preparation for this year’s rain and to prevent flooding in the Local Government Area, the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon Princess Sarah Olayemi Animashaun, has ordered the clearing of drainages on Popo Oba, Lagbade and Otunba Street of the Local Government Area.
A release signed by the Chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olawale Yusuff, said the initiative is to ensure the drainage systems are clear and functional, thereby preventing flooding during the rainy season. This, he said, is part of the Chairman’s environmental sustainability agenda.
The drainage clearing team, led by Hon. Tunde Odupe, the Supervisor for the Environment in the Local Government, had been tasked with carrying out the drainage clearing exercise.
This achievement, he said, serves as a testament to Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun’s visionary leadership, administrative acumen, and dedication to delivering on her promises of environmental sustainability and commitment to effective governance and the welfare of Epe residents.
Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun urged residents to collaborate with the government in maintaining the cleanliness and free flow of drainage channels by not dumping refuse into drainages and canals.
“When drains become clogged, stagnant water can turn into a breeding habitat for pathogenic germs and microorganisms. Regular drain cleaning eliminates the breeding grounds for these nasty microbes and ensures that foul odours do not permeate your living spaces”, Animashaun said.
