The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) marked its 30th anniversary with a grand celebration, honoring distinguished individuals, organizations, and supporters who have contributed to the association’s growth and the advancement of local content in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Speaking at the event, PETAN Chairman, Nicolas Odinuwe, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders. “This milestone is a testament to the collective efforts of our founders, members, clients, and partners. Their unwavering support has shaped PETAN into a leading voice in the industry,” he said.
Key highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to industry trailblazers. HRH Eze Ralph Ekezie received the prestigious Founders Award (1994–2024), recognizing his foundational role in PETAN’s establishment. Wole Ogunsanya was honored as PETAN’s Man of the Year 2024, while THISDAY earned the title of Most Supportive Media.
Corporate entities also received accolades for their innovations and contributions. Chevron and Seplat Energy Plc were recognized for embracing new technologies, with Seplat further winning awards as the Highest Independent Producer Contract to PETAN Companies and Best Independent Producer.
Fidelity Bank PLC and FCMB Group emerged as the Highest Supporting Banks, while Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) was named Most Patronizing IOC Company. Heirs Energies clinched the award for Highest Patronized NOC Company, and ARIBOIL COMPANY LIMITED stood out for its manufacturing excellence.
PETAN also paid homage to past chairmen and leaders of the local content movement. “These individuals laid the groundwork for local content policies that have transformed Nigeria’s oil and gas industry,” said Odinuwe, acknowledging leaders like Brian Anderson, Engr. Egbert Imomoh, and Senator Bassey Out.
A posthumous Hero Appreciation Award was presented to Chief Azuka Uzor of ZUMAX for his contributions.
The event, held in Lagos, was a fitting celebration of three decades of excellence. As Odinuwe concluded, “This is just the beginning of greater strides for PETAN and the industry.”
