The Federal Government has reiterated its support for the NNPC Limited/FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture (JV) in its drive to achieve a production target of 100,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
This was confirmed by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, during a two-day engagement with the JV in the Niger Delta.
The Minister’s visit included inspections of the Abigail-Joseph Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, the Anyala OML 83, and Madu OML 85 Conductor Supported Platforms, alongside a tour of the Ogu Logistics Base in Bayelsa State.
During the tour, Lokpobiri emphasized the strategic importance of the JV in advancing Nigeria’s goal of producing 2.5 million BOPD by 2025. He also highlighted the partnership’s contribution to the country’s current output of 1.8 million BOPD.
FIRST E&P’s Managing Director, Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, expressed the company’s commitment to maximizing production and enhancing efficiency. He noted that with a steady output of 56,000 BOPD, the company remains focused on surpassing the 100,000 BOPD target while aligning with Nigeria’s energy security goals.
Representatives of host communities also commended the JV for its impactful initiatives in education, healthcare, and human capital development. Senator Lokpobiri urged sustained collaboration, highlighting the critical role of peaceful host communities in achieving production targets.
The visit underscores the government’s dedication to creating an investor-friendly climate and maintaining Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global oil and gas industry.
