In line with the Lagos Water Corporation’s (LWC) ongoing commitment to strengthening its workforce, the agency participated in a comprehensive 2-day training workshop on Water Quality Control and Compliance.
This initiative, driven by the leadership of the Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, is part of LWC’s broader strategy to improve operational efficiency, maintain sustainable water services, and safeguard public health in Lagos State.
Held from November 13-14, 2024, the workshop was organized by USAID/LUWASH and aimed at improving the availability and quality of safe water and sanitation services in Lagos.
The event brought together key stakeholders from LWC, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LASWAMO), and the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) for intensive sessions on advanced water quality management.
Focused on strengthening the capacity of LWC staff, the workshop covered essential topics including Water Quality Surveillance, Monitoring from Source to Tap, Incident Management, Water Treatment Processes, and adherence to Water Quality Standards and Parameters. These are vital areas for ensuring safe, clean, and accessible water for Lagos’ over 22 million residents.
Key LWC officials, including Engr. Ogunlewe Bolaji (Director, Distribution & Network), Engr. Agiri Mustapha (Director, Production), Mrs. ‘Peju Isola (Divisional Director, Commercial, Customers, and Community Relations), Mr. Tola Fadare (Director, Complaints & Quality Management), and Mrs. Taiwo Azeez (Director, Customer Relations), were among the prominent attendees, along with senior staff from various departments, including Distribution, Production, and Quality Management.
The training is part of a larger initiative supported by a five-year grant from USAID which aims to rehabilitate and improve water infrastructure across Lagos State. The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance water availability, reduce service disruptions, and improve the overall quality of water and sanitation services for the state’s growing population.
With these capacity-building efforts, LWC continues its proactive approach to enhancing water quality management and ensuring sustainable, reliable water services for the people of Lagos.
