In a powerful demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Mainstream Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, has extended a lifeline to victims of the recent devastating floods in Mokwa, Niger State.
Led by Programme Manager Zayyan Illo, the foundation’s team visited the flood-ravaged town to deliver critical relief materials and express solidarity with affected communities.
Speaking during the outreach, Illo conveyed the foundation’s deep sympathy to both the Government and people of Niger State, particularly the residents of Mokwa who bore the brunt of the disaster.
“As an organisation deeply committed to community development, we are profoundly saddened by this tragedy,” he said. “Our hearts are with the people of Mokwa. We have witnessed firsthand the immense challenges they are facing—the loss, the despair, and the disruption to everyday life. We are here to stand with them during this trying period.”
The relief package included staple food items such as rice, spaghetti, sugar, and cooking spices, as well as household essentials like mattresses, blankets, and buckets. In addition, each recipient received a modest cash donation to help stabilize their immediate needs.
For many in Mokwa, the gesture came at a time of profound personal loss and uncertainty.
“I lost everything. Even the clothes I’m wearing now were donated,” said Salamatu Saidu from Gangaren Hausawa. “I am so grateful to this company. May the Almighty bless them.”
Another beneficiary, Zainab Ilyasu, recounted her harrowing experience with tears in her eyes:
“My children were rescued alive from beneath the rubble, but not all of our neighbors survived. What this foundation has done for us, bringing food, sleeping materials, and even money to cook with, only God can reward them.”
Olugbenga Adebola, Head of Corporate Communications at Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, emphasized that the company remains unwavering in its support for local communities.
“Mainstream Foundation was established with the purpose of creating real, on-the-ground impact. That’s why we insist on direct intervention, to ensure help reaches those who truly need it,” he said.
“Since our inception as one of the first successor companies of the former PHCN, we have prioritized community outreach, becoming the first registered philanthropic foundation in Nigeria’s power sector.” he affirmed.
Addressing recent speculation about the source of the flooding, Adebola clarified that the disaster could not have been caused by releases from the Kainji or Jebba dams.
“No tributaries from either dam passes through Mokwa. Multiple authorities have confirmed this. We urge media outlets to avoid misinformation and instead focus on accurate reporting, especially in these vulnerable times.”
Programme Manager Illo reaffirmed the foundation’s long-term commitment to the communities surrounding Nigeria’s inland lakes.
“Beyond emergency relief, Mainstream Foundation is committed to sustained development through education, healthcare, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship.
“We believe that real impact comes from not just responding to crises, but also building resilience for the future.” he concluded.
