2025 VIA Programme for Safe Mobility Team Members
TotalEnergies, in collaboration with NNPC, has officially launched the 2025 VIA Programme for Safe Mobility in Nigeria – a youth-focused road safety education programme implemented by GreenLight Initiative under the global VIA Programme and supported by the TotalEnergies Foundation.
The project aims to work closely with young people to improve the conditions in which they travel to and from school by bringing the issues to their attention and raising awareness among all members of the educational community. This project will improve road safety around school environments by engaging 600 students across Abuja, Lagos, and Rivers States, empowering them to become advocates for safe mobility within their schools and communities.
Through a structured, school-based curriculum, students will assess road safety risks in their school zones, develop actionable solutions, raise awareness through peer-led campaigns, and participate in state and national-level exhibitions and competitions.
“The VIA Programme for Safe Mobility goes beyond teaching road safety – it is about empowering young people to become advocates and leaders for safer school journeys in their communities. By giving students the tools and the platform to lead, we are investing in a safer, more inclusive mobility future for Nigeria. We are proud to be part of this effort to deliver such an impactful programme.
Originally launched in 2018 by the TotalEnergies Foundation and the Michelin Corporate Foundation from our head office in Paris, the programme was created in response to growing concerns about mobility accidents and road crashes globally — especially those affecting children.
For TotalEnergies E&P Nigeria, one of our major focuses is on education, educating the children of this country in different ways” said Tonye Osifo, Manager Education and Inclusion/ Acting GM Corporate Social Responsibility, TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited.
The VIA Programme is now active in over 12 countries and aims to educate youth aged 10–25 through interactive, context-based learning. It contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 4, 11, and 17) by promoting safe, inclusive, and sustainable mobility.
In Nigeria, implementation is led by GreenLight Initiative, collaborating with public schools, Ministries of Education in the three participating states, and strategic partners including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure broad engagement and sustainable impact. This initiative also promotes youth leadership, civic responsibility, and behavioral change in road use.
The 2025 VIA Programme will run from May to September, and includes key phases such as observation walks, risk mapping, student-led workshops, and creative exhibitions designed to showcase practical road safety innovations by young people.
By investing in education, advocacy, and creative youth leadership, the 2025 VIA Programme for Safe Mobility reinforces TotalEnergies commitment to shaping a generation of road safety champions who prioritize safety, responsibility, and shared mobility rights.
