While residents of Lagos, Nigeria celebrated the Eid el Fitri festival, operatives of the Ikorodu Command of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps apprehended two thieves as they attempted to make away with stolen items.
The culprits, Olamilekan Adumobi 21 (m) from Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, Ogun State and his accomplice, Jabir (m) who claimed to be a scrap dealer from Katsina state, were arrested by the officers at about 1400hrs in front of the Central Mosque on Kazeem Arulogun Street.
The two suspects were then taken to the Ikorodu Command office at Ita-Elewa, where they confessed to stealing five pieces of cutting disc, two pieces of welding tongs, five pieces of angle iron, and one iron hammer.
The owners of the items and the property at Abule Balogun, Eruwen, where the thieves burgled were all contacted on the phone to report to the office.
At the Command base, Barrister Ade Adeshina (site owner) and Pastor Talabi Adegbenro, a welder and owner of the stolen items refused to press charges on compassionate grounds. However, the suspects were compelled to write undertakings, promising not to get involved in such an act again before they were released.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Prince (Dr.) Ifalade Oyekan, while commending the officers for their vigilance, warned criminals to stay off Lagos State as the Corp of the Agency is committed to ridding the state of all criminal elements.
