The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, on March 12, 2025, embarked on a one-day familiarization visit to TotalEnergies’ offshore fields, Ofon and Egina.
The visit aimed to acquaint the Minister with TotalEnergies’ investment plans, ongoing projects, and operational challenges, particularly in capital expenditure and community relations.
Welcoming the Minister were key executives of TotalEnergies, including Managing Director Matthieu Bouyer, Deputy Managing Director JVA Olivier Cassassoles, Deputy Managing Director DWA Victor Bandele, and Executive General Manager HSEQ Eragbae Aikhoje.
Following the tour, Senator Lokpobiri commended TotalEnergies for exemplifying the standards the Federal Government expects from International Oil Companies (IOCs).
“The Federal Government is very desirous to increase investment in the oil and gas sector to boost its production level. So, I must commend TotalEnergies for being a shining example of what the Federal Government expects from IOCs. Let us work together to improve the sector and continue to support your company for our mutual benefit,” he stated.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by IOCs, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to a collaborative approach in addressing industry concerns.
“Let’s have a meeting, identify the issues, and find a win-win solution. We are not here to create problems; the government is reasonable and willing to work towards solutions,” he added.
In response, Managing Director Matthieu Bouyer expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visit and reaffirmed TotalEnergies’ readiness to partner with the government in boosting production. He highlighted that the company’s upcoming projects, tied to existing fields, would not only enhance output but also generate increased revenue for the Federal Government.
