Students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) have achieved a significant milestone by building the institution’s first-ever solar-powered vehicle. This project highlights MAPOLY’s commitment to hands-on education and real-world problem-solving.
The Rector, Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso, emphasized the institution’s mission to empower students with practical skills, stating, “This solar-powered vehicle is proof of our dedication to fostering innovative solutions.” Dr. Oluseyi Orelaja, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, praised the students’ technical expertise, noting, “This project is a demonstration of the knowledge and skills our students have gained. It is a proud moment for MAPOLY.”
Dr. Olujide Adenekan, Director of the School of Engineering, highlighted the broader implications of the project: “The real challenge is translating these innovations into market-ready solutions that drive industrial growth and national development.”
Established in 1979 and renowned for technical excellence, MAPOLY has consistently produced impactful projects, from automated irrigation systems to energy-efficient machines. This solar-powered vehicle, entirely designed and built by students, was supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), reinforcing the institution’s commitment to practical learning and sustainable technology.
The successful launch of the vehicle, publicized via NTA News, stands as another testament to MAPOLY’s legacy of innovation and contribution to Nigeria’s technological advancement.
