… As Lagos Island Local Government Undertakes Landmark Health Project in Oke-Arin
The Lagos State Government and Lagos Island Local Government have flagged off the reconstruction of the historic John Street Health Centre into the Oba Sanusi Olusi Memorial Health Centre. The groundbreaking ceremony, held recently in Oke Arin, Lagos Island, marked the 20th-year remembrance of the late Oba Sanusi Matiku Olusi, a revered traditional ruler.
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, highlighted the significance of the project to the community, noting that the new health centre aligns with the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes for all residents.
“This facility will not only honour the legacy of Oba Sanusi Matiku Olusi but also provide accessible, quality healthcare to Oke-Arin and neighbouring communities, including Idumota, Balogun, Oluwole, and Ereko,” Dr. Ogboye stated.
The Executive Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Prince Tijani Adetoyese Olusi, described the project as a testament to the late Oba’s vision for community development. Prince Olusi noted that the facility would offer a wide range of health services, from maternal and child health to mental health support and chronic disease management.
The Chairman expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and the community for supporting the project. He assured residents of the local government’s commitment to delivering a world-class healthcare facility.
Other dignitaries present the event included Hon. Mohammed Rosul Eshinlokun, Vice Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, and the Egbe of Lagos, Chief Rafiu Abayomi Olusi, who represented the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.
The event also witnessed the presence of Prince Fuad Oki, a prominent figure in the community, who lauded the initiative as a bold step toward addressing the healthcare challenges of the area.
Chief Rafiu Abayomi Olusi, representing the Oba of Lagos, expressed gratitude to the Lagos Island Local Government for honouring the late Oba Sanusi Matiku Olusi’s legacy. He urged residents to ensure the facility is well-maintained upon completion.
The Health Centre will feature state-of-the-art facilities and provide comprehensive healthcare services, including outpatient care, preventive care, maternal and child health services, laboratory diagnostics, and mental health counselling. The reconstruction project, spearheaded by the Lagos Island Local Government, is expected to boost the health and well-being of residents significantly.
Community leaders and residents expressed their excitement, noting that the project will ease access to healthcare for market traders and families in the area.
As the event concluded, prayers were offered for the successful execution of the project, which is expected to serve as a model for healthcare delivery in Lagos State.
The six Permanent Secretaries of the Health Districts in Lagos State including, Dr. Funmilayo Bankole, Permanent Secretary for Health District I; Dr. Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary for Health District II; Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, Permanent Secretary for Health District III; Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Permanent Secretary for Health District IV and Supervising Permanent Secretary for the Lagos Primary Health Care Board; Dr. Dapo Asiyanbi, Permanent Secretary for Health District V and Dr. Abimbola Mabogunje, Permanent Secretary for Health District VI, also graced the occasion.
