The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Nigeria Mission Director, Ms. Melissa Jones, on Friday, 1st November 2024, visited Lagos Water Corporation Lekki Waterworks facility prior to the commencement of rehabilitation of water infrastructure.
The Director was received by the LWC, Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani in the company of LUWASH Chief of Party (COP) James Racicot and DCOP, Soni Elisha.
The Lekki water facility is one of five waterworks that will undergo rehabilitation under the USAID-funded Lagos Urban Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (LUWASH) program, an initiative integral to strengthening water infrastructure across the State.
Through this vital five-year partnership, the Lagos State Government and USAID are working collaboratively to enhance water quality and accessibility for Lagos communities.
The Corporation, however, commended USAID for their support and commitment to sustainable urban development, which continues to advance LWC shared goal of delivering safe, reliable water to the people of Lagos.
Earlier, the corporation announced that the Lagos State government has secured a five-year grant from USAID to rehabilitate water infrastructure across the state. The upgrades aimed to enhance water availability, reduce disruptions, and improve sanitation services.
Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), through the Lagos Urban Water Sanitation and Hygiene (LUWASH) programme, will oversee the first phase, which involves rehabilitation of five mini waterworks to scale up capacity for the supply of safe water in five communities in Lagos, such as Badore, Lekki, Victoria Island, Victoria Island Annex, and Ajegunle.
The second phase/tranche of the USAID grant will extend the rehabilitation to other locations, including Bariga, Iwaya, Ikeja, Ikate, Ajangbadi, and Meiran Waterworks.
