Lagos State Government has engaged some residents of Okun Ajah Waterfront Schemes as part of efforts to ensure compliance with building regulations on its Waterfront shoreline and schemes.
Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon Ekundayo Alebiosu met with the residents in his office recently to further discuss issues arising from unwholesome developments in the area.
Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner stated that the Okun Ajah Waterfront Scheme is one of the many transformative urban development projects aimed at revitalising and resuscitating the State’s water coastline.
He said: “The scheme and some others in the axis have been in the news for irregularities in their acquisition processes, but this administration will do everything in its power to bring solutions to the issue, which has been of concern to residents of the community, including the option to perfect their title documents.
“Our job on this divide is not to create problems but to resolve them by proffering working solutions that will not be temporary, but one that will stand the test of time. We will look into the issues and resolve them as they arise. Our plan is to meet with stakeholders in batches to reach out to everyone involved. You have come at a good time and this will avail you the opportunity to benefit from the Amnesty Programme before the window closes.”
Alebiosu reiterated the power of dialogue and collaboration while acknowledging the tireless efforts of all parties as he looks forward to a new era of cooperation and mutual understanding.
Residents of the communities in attendance expressed great relief and optimism regarding the proffered solution as they commended the Commissioner for initiating such a mutually beneficial, friendly and responsible solution.
“This proposal brings hope and a renewed sense of possibility to us. It shows that the State Government is responsive and has the interest of the people at heart. We look forward to working together towards making the State, particularly the communities along the waterfronts, a model in development”, says Otunba Ayobola Abiola, a resident.
Mrs Becky Eboh, another resident, confirmed that this is the first time after several months she had a breath of fresh air on issues bordering her property in Okun Ajah, especially the way the Commissioner resolved the issue for them.
She said, “The outcome of the meeting today is pleasing, I am indeed very happy, the Commissioner was fair to all with his very sound judgement I was seriously tense when I came but he has succeeded in calming all nerves, I appreciate him and am very pleased with the way he fixed our issue.’’
Bayo Adekoya, a stakeholder, couldn’t hide his excitement at the way the issues bordering on the community were put on the front burner by the Commissioner and resolved without any encumbrances.
