The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEA-A), has announced that preparations are done to host its 3rd Annual International Conference, set for September 25-26, 2024, at the Abuja Continental Hotel in Nigeria.
According to the organizers of the conference, this year’s theme, “Road to Net Zero – Actionable Initiatives for Success,” reflects the urgent need for collaborative and innovative strategies to propel Nigeria’s transition toward sustainable energy.
The conference, says the RE Alliance, will convene energy stakeholders, policymakers, industry experts, and academics to develop actionable initiatives aimed at achieving Nigeria’s net-zero targets. As the nation faces rising energy demands and significant climate challenges, this gathering is crucial for fostering dialogue and sharing solutions that align with Nigeria’s strategic energy transition pathways.
Prof. Magnus Onuoha, President of REEEA-A, emphasized the broader objectives of the conference: “This event aims not just to share knowledge, but to catalyze actionable commitments that can transform our energy landscape. We envision a Nigeria where sustainable energy is accessible to all, driven by the collaboration of diverse stakeholders.”
Dr. Lande Abudu, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee, added, “The conference will also highlight the vital roles of journalists, youth, and women in our energy transition. Their insights and participation are essential for crafting a holistic approach that includes various perspectives, ensuring that our initiatives resonate across different segments of society.”
The agenda features a diverse array of distinguished speakers, including a keynote address by the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, who will discuss national policies aimed at promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency. The listed panel discussions will delve into practical strategies for integrating insights from the panels into Nigeria’s energy transition pathways, focusing on how to overcome existing barriers and leverage new opportunities.
Prof. Abubakar Sambo, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of REEEA-A, noted the importance of inclusivity: “Engaging youth and women, who are often the most affected by energy challenges, is crucial. Their voices will help shape a comprehensive energy strategy that is equitable and effective.”
The conference aims to equip attendees with the tools needed to foster a collaborative and integrated approach to Nigeria’s energy challenges; with participants set to look forward to interactive workshops, networking opportunities, and engaging discussions designed to translate panel insights into actionable initiatives.
