- 0.0655% Low Sulphur Content
- Reduced Flare – Low carbon footprint
The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd has unveiled its latest crude oil offering, the Utapate blend, marking its entry into the international market.
Originating from Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13, operated by NEPL, NNPCL’s upstream subsidiary, Utapate began production in July 2024, with its inaugural shipment heading to Spain.
Situated offshore Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Utapate currently produces 28,000 barrels per day, with the potential to ramp up to 50,000 barrels per day. The blend features a low sulphur content of 0.0655%.
Spanish oil major Repsol secured the tender for the first cargo of 950,000 barrels of Utapate, which is comparable to the highly sought-after Amenam crude.
Gulf Transport and Trading have also won tenders for additional cargoes scheduled for August and September 2024.
In 2023, at the Argus European Crude Conference in London, NNPC Ltd introduced Nembe crude oil from its Oil Mining Lease (OML) 29 Joint Venture with Aiteo. Like Nembe, the Utapate blend boasts a low sulphur content and a minimal carbon footprint due to flare gas elimination, meeting the stringent specifications of major European buyers.
This new launch underscores NNPC Ltd’s commitment to boosting Nigeria’s crude oil production and expanding reserves through innovative asset development.
