The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), in partnership with Continental Reinsurance, planted 2000 trees at the Lekki Conservation Centre to enhance environmental sustainability and combat climate change along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
Dr. Joseph Onoja, Director-General of NCF, represented by Mr. Uchenna Achunine, emphasized the significance of June for nature conservation efforts.
He praised the partnership with Continental Reinsurance, describing it as a strong and supportive relationship.
Onoja highlighted Continental Reinsurance’s ambitious goal of planting one million trees across Africa and mentioned their participation in the 9th CEO Summit in Zimbabwe, where they discussed nature conservation with industry leaders.
The NCF, Nigeria’s leading environmental organization, launched the Green Recovery Nigeria (GRN) project in 2017, aiming to restore Nigeria’s forest cover to 25%. Currently, the forest cover is between 4% and 8%.
Mr. Chukwuemeka Akwiwu, Group Executive Director of Continental Reinsurance, expressed the company’s commitment to the GRN project with their donation of 2000 trees.
He highlighted the importance of ongoing discussions about environmental conservation and noted that the tree planting symbolizes hope in combating climate change.
Akwiwu reiterated Continental Reinsurance’s dedication to supporting environmental initiatives and fostering collaboration for lasting impact.
The event concluded with the tree planting at the conservation area of the Lekki Conservation Centre.
