Youths from Finima community in Bonny local government area of Rivers State took decisive action early today, Tuesday, June 25 2024, by shutting down operations at two key oil service companies — Saipem Construction Nigeria Limited and Daewoo Engineering and Construction Limited.
These companies are pivotal contractors for the Train Seven Project of Nigeria LNG Limited.
Undeterred by heavy rain that persisted for hours, the youths blockaded the gates of both firms, effectively halting all entry and exit of personnel.
Their protest stems from deep-seated grievances regarding perceived neglect and marginalization within the ongoing project.
They are adamantly calling for the strict implementation of the Local Content Development Act 2017 and demanding robust inclusion of host communities in all aspects of the project.
The standoff underscores mounting tensions and emphasizes the urgent need for dialogue and resolution to address community concerns amid major industrial developments in the region.
Efforts to reach staff of both companies and that of NLNG are still ongoing.
