Following an increase in the reported cases of cholera in Lagos State, the Lagos Water Corporation has again swung into action by supplying potable water to the affected areas of the State.
This includes Oju Olokun community, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island; and Akinbode community in Mushin where residents can be seen fetching safe and clean water supplied from LWC.
This immediate intervention by the corporation is aimed to minimise further spread of the deadly disease in the area by distributing safe and clean water to affected areas of the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has recently stated that Lagos Island has the highest number of suspected cholera cases in the state.
The Lagos state government through its agencies such as the LWC is heavily invested in ensuring that other affected areas are properly monitored and have access also to safe, clean water; as well as all other areas of the state.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio Cholera.
