LWC: We’ll do our best for water to run in every home in Lagos State

• to re-introduce Performance Implementation Programme (PIP) for improved service delivery.

The Lagos Water Corporation under the new leadership of the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Mukhtar Temitope Tijani has assured residents of the State of his commitment towards provision of potable water supply to every home in the State.

Engr. Tijani made this assertion through the LWC Executive Director, Operations, Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Taiwo during the Lagos Urban Water and Sanitation Hygiene (LUWASH), wrap up event to consolidate the initial Operations Assessment of LWC (Field Mission), held Wednesday in Lagos.

 

While commending and appreciating LUWASH on behalf of the Lagos State Government (LASG) for the good work, Engr. Tijani stressed that LUWASH has started on a good stand, by bringing drivers of the Water project together to discuss, assess and fully participate on the activities of the LUWASH Activity over the past weeks.

He added that as leaders, it is one of their responsibilities to encourage people to work for results, as he believes in his team, being experienced in their various fields.

“Yes!, Leadership Matters. In this dispensation, with help of Almighty God, we shall drive the mantle of leadership of LWC to greater destination.

“I have been confronted by Lagosians on their Water needs in the State, and we shall do our best.

“I really appreciate and am willing to work with you for remaining time”, he said.

LUWASH is an Implementation Partner of United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and has designed the workshop to validate and update data and information provided by LWC HODs, through interviews and meetings.

Meanwhile, as part of the strategies for improved service delivery and revenue generation, LWC is brainstorming towards considering the re-introduction of Performance Implementation Programme (PIP) to help accelerate the provision, and delivery of water supply in the State, and improvement in revenue regeneration of the Corporation.

Earlier, PIP as strategy employed, triumphed and recorded some outstanding and memorable performances/ achievements in terms of improved production, huge revenue generation in LWC.  Unfortunately, this was discontinued due to several challenges such as; ineffective leadership, communication problems, centralized autonomy, sustainability and incentive issues, among others.

The DCOP, Engr. Soni Elisha remarked that, “PIP, as an issue based strategic plan, is responsive to current problems”. It was also highlighted that LUWASH is looking forward to the sustainability of the Corporation, as LUWASH will concentrate on processes and procedures of PIP.

“We believe in LWC, because, you have the materials. We shall give you technical and catalytic supports”.

However, it is worthy of note that Lagos State Government is partnering the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the implementation of the Lagos Urban Water and Sanitation Hygiene initiative.

The goal of the partnership is to increase the availability and sustainable management of safe water in Lagos State by improving the performance of public and private service providers, strengthening the legal and regulatory framework, enhancing the capacity of sector institutions to upscale accountability and transparency’ among others.
