The Nigerian Government on Sunday called on national and foreign investors to maximise the business opportunities in the sanitation sector for the nation’s socio-economic development.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack made this call in an interview in Abuja.
This is part of preparations to the upcoming World Toilet Summit, holding in Abuja.
According to her, investors and exhibitors can contribute their quota in the sanitation value chain and make money from toilet innovations and investments by showcasing their activities, innovations, technologies and products.
Walson-Jack said: “Participants will have the opportunity to walk through the exhibition arena, view the exhibitions and interact with exhibitors about their products and fully explore the Sanitation Value Chain.
“The summit will facilitate knowledge sharing and policy engagement on sanitation with the goal of developing and strengthening inter-sectoral and cross-sectoral linkages for improved and sustainable sanitation service delivery.
“In addition to all that I have said, the Summit is expected to bring about an African Toilet revolution, that will contribute to accelerating the national campaign in Nigeria with extension across the continent.’’
Walson-Jack said that improved collaboration among stakeholders was crucial in driving accelerated access to sustainable sanitation services.
She said through an enabling environment for sanitation service delivery and private sector participation, Nigeria would make accelerated progress on the Clean Nigeria Campaign for an Open Defecation Free Nigeria by 2025.
Nigeria will be the second country in Africa to host the summit from Nov. 18 to Nov. 19, with the theme, ‘Towards Sanitation Innovations for Economic Development’.
The summit is being organised by the Government of Nigeria, the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (OPS-WASH) and the World Toilet Organisation.
