The Lagos Water Corporation has decried the mass looting of Water Pipes at LWC Ishasi major Waterworks.
This was disclosed today, Friday 30th September, 2022 at the Corporation’s Headquarters, Ijora, Lagos.
In a statement, the Corporation explained that the World Bank and State Government funded/procured Water Pipes of different sizes, according to current market value estimated about One (1) Billion Naira were being carted away by unknown person (s), even as all efforts to identify and arrest the culprits proved abortive.
LWC further explained that “twelve (12) loaded trucks of water pipes raging from 2000mm, 1500mm, 900mm, 600mm, 500mm, 450mm to 400mm diameters and six (6) heavy duty cranes hiab vehicles left the 4Million Gallons per Day (MGD) Ishasi Waterworks Pipes yard and carted away pipes meant for the distribution and supply of water to the residents of Ishasi and its environs, without any approval or documents to do so”.
However, the Corporation has called on Security operatives in the State to assist the water corporation in retrieving the Water pipes as no permission was granted for the removal of the items.
It will be recalled that the Corporation’s Boss, Engr Muminu Badmus had lamented the incessant vandalization of public water pipes in the state which has contributed to the lack of pipe borne water to several parts of the state.
This discovery shows that indeed, there’s an underground cartel negating the works of the corporation and all effort should be expended to uncover those behind the cartel.
