Construction has commenced on the Lagos Island Micro Waterworks Project, with the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) setting an eight-month delivery window for the facility as part of efforts to strengthen potable water infrastructure in Lagos Island and surrounding communities.
The project, awarded to HydroSource Consult & Sons Ltd., is expected to be completed by March 2027 or, at the latest, April 2027.
The development was announced on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during a project kick-off meeting at the Lagos Water Corporation headquarters in Ijora, Lagos.
Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, called on the Corporation’s departments and other stakeholders to provide the contractor with the necessary institutional support to ensure that the project is delivered within schedule and to the required quality standards.
Addressing officials and representatives of HydroSource Consult & Sons Ltd., Tijani said the contractor should receive the cooperation required to execute the project effectively.
“Everybody should support the contractor towards delivering the project with the best quality and within the perfect timing.”
He also directed relevant departments within the Corporation to create a conducive working environment for the contractor and ensure that the project receives the necessary institutional attention throughout its execution.
The project is being implemented under the administration of Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as part of ongoing efforts by the state government to expand and renew critical water infrastructure.
LWC targets eight-month delivery
Executive Director, Operations, LWC, Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo, emphasised the need for strict adherence to the approved eight-month implementation period.
She put the completion target at March 2027, with April 2027 as the latest expected delivery date, while urging stakeholders to maintain professionalism, ensure judicious use of project resources and adhere to stipulated quality standards.
The Director of Production, Engr. Mustapha Agiri, described the project as a new undertaking for his department and said its successful implementation would require a collective effort across the Corporation.
Similarly, the Director of Distribution, Engr. Bolaji Ogunlewe, pledged the full support of his department to the contractor during execution.
Contractor outlines technical approach
Presenting the programme of work, Executive Director of HydroSource Consult & Sons Ltd., Engr. Wale Giwa, assured LWC that the contractor would maintain the required quality standards throughout the project.
He outlined the technical approach to the project, including geophysical analysis, and stressed the importance of collaboration between the contractor, LWC departments and other stakeholders.
The Lagos Island Micro Waterworks Project was awarded to HydroSource Consult & Sons Ltd. under Contract No. LWC/W/NS/002B/2026, following the completion of the procurement process in accordance with the guidelines of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.
Part of wider Lagos water infrastructure renewal
The project forms part of the Lagos Water Corporation’s broader infrastructure renewal programme, which seeks to improve operational capacity and strengthen the availability and accessibility of potable water across communities served by the Corporation.
For Lagos Island and its environs, the project adds another component to ongoing efforts to improve water infrastructure in an area where demand for reliable potable water continues to place pressure on existing systems.
With construction now underway, attention will shift to implementation, quality control and adherence to the March 2027 completion target set by the Corporation.
