- Five-day programme brings Heritage Energy personnel together across OML 30 to strengthen safety, environmental stewardship, security awareness, health and risk management.
Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (Heritage Energy), operator of Oil Mining Lease (OML) 30 on behalf of its joint venture partners, NNPC E&P Limited (NEPL) and Shoreline Natural Resources Limited (SNRL), has commenced its inaugural Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Week across its OML 30 operations.
Held under the theme “One Team, One Goal. Zero Harm,” the five-day programme is bringing together Heritage Energy personnel across its office and field locations for activities focused on workplace safety, employee health and wellbeing, security awareness, environmental responsibility and operational risk management.
The initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to strengthen operational discipline and embed continuous improvement across its oil and gas activities.
Speaking at the commencement of the programme, Heritage Energy Chief Executive Officer, Ado Oseragbaje, said achieving a zero-harm workplace depends on how consistently risks are identified, assessed and controlled before and during work.
“No job is so urgent or important that it cannot be paused to address a safety concern,” Oseragbaje said.
He said employees must understand the risks associated with their activities, comply with established controls and be prepared to raise concerns whenever a potential safety issue is identified.
“Achieving zero harm requires us to understand the risks around our work, follow the controls that keep us safe, and remain disciplined in how we execute our activities,” he said. “It also requires us to speak up when something does not look right and to have the confidence to intervene when necessary.”
Oseragbaje also reaffirmed Heritage Energy’s Stop Work Authority, which gives employees the responsibility and authority to intervene when a task is considered unsafe or has the potential to cause harm.
According to the company, the HSSE Week is designed to provide a platform for employees to strengthen their understanding of HSSE expectations, share operational experiences and reinforce behaviours that support safe, reliable and responsible operations.
Activities during the five-day programme cover the four core HSSE areas, including health and wellbeing, safety learning and engagement, security awareness, and environmental stewardship. The programme also includes recognition of contributions to HSSE performance.
Beyond the week-long activities, Heritage Energy said the initiative reflects its continuing focus on disciplined execution, active risk management and continuous learning across its OML 30 operations.
The company’s emphasis on environmental stewardship also forms part of the wider HSSE framework guiding its operations, alongside measures aimed at protecting employees, contractors, assets and host communities while maintaining safe and reliable oil and gas production.
OML 30 is one of Nigeria’s major onshore oil and gas assets and includes a number of producing fields in the Niger Delta. Heritage Energy operates the asset on behalf of NEPL and SNRL.
The inaugural HSSE Week is expected to reinforce a shared approach to identifying operational risks, applying controls and encouraging employee intervention where unsafe conditions are observed, with the overarching objective of strengthening a zero-harm culture across OML 30.
