The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has deepened its strategic engagement with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc (JBN), following a high-level courtesy and familiarisation visit led by the Corporation’s Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, to the construction giant’s Ijora, Lagos office on Wednesday.
The visit brought together senior leadership from both organisations to explore closer coordination on water infrastructure development, pipeline protection, road construction and sustainable urban planning across Lagos Island and its environs.
Engr. Tijani led a delegation comprising the Executive Director (Operations), Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo; Director, Distribution, Engr. Bolaji Ogunlewe; Director, Legal, Barrister ‘Lanre Fashola; Director, Consultancy, Technical and Engineering Services, Mrs. Odimayo Olayinka; Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs and Brand Management, Mrs. Fashola Kehinde; Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs and Brand Management, Mr. Anifowoshe Rasaq; Deputy Director, Production, Engr. Afolabi Gégé; Assistant Director, Distribution, Engr. Balogun Rahman; and Technical Adviser to the Managing Director, Mr. Kazeem Shuaib.
Julius Berger’s team was led by Regional Commercial Manager, Region West, Mr. Alexander Bauer, alongside Deputy Project Coordinator, Engr. Gbenga Osunlana; Assistant Project Coordinator, Mr. Bolaji Johnson; and Senior Liaison Officer, Engr. Rasheedat Anifowoshe.
Describing the engagement, Engr. Tijani said the visit was a familiarisation and neighbourly gesture aimed at strengthening institutional relationships and building mutual understanding between the two organisations’ operations, while laying groundwork for deeper collaboration going forward. He stressed that cordial relationships with neighbouring organisations and strategic stakeholders, cultivated early, tend to open doors for greater collaboration in the future.
TOWARDS BETTER INFRASTRUCTURE COORDINATION
A central theme of the meeting was the need for early communication and technical coordination between road and water infrastructure stakeholders, to prevent project conflicts, reduce disruptions and support the delivery of durable infrastructure across the state.
Speaking for Julius Berger, Mr. Bauer reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable engineering solutions over short-term fixes, underscoring the value of proper coordination and early stakeholder engagement ahead of construction activities.
Discussions also touched on access to relevant project drawings and technical documentation. Julius Berger clarified that the release of detailed project plans remains subject to client approval, prompting both parties to agree on the need for coordinated engagement with the Lagos State Government to facilitate the necessary approvals and reinforce technical collaboration.
STRENGTHENING WATER INFRASTRUCTURE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Water infrastructure planning and the sustainable management of underground water resources featured prominently in the talks.
The LWC delegation highlighted the importance of accurate pipeline data in planning future water infrastructure, and the need to align road construction and other urban development projects with existing water networks.
Both sides also raised concerns over uncoordinated borehole drilling and its potential impact on groundwater resources and the wider ecosystem, agreeing that strengthening reliable, centralised public water supply systems would help reduce dependence on individual boreholes, protect groundwater resources, and promote more sustainable access to potable water across Lagos.
COMMITMENT TO STRATEGIC STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
The two organisations reaffirmed their commitment to proactive information-sharing on construction activities, road conditions, project schedules and potential disruptions.
Security and community welfare also featured in the discussions, with Julius Berger outlining its ongoing engagement with relevant authorities to improve security infrastructure within the area.
Given Julius Berger’s long-standing presence in Lagos and its extensive infrastructure expertise, stakeholders described the engagement as a valuable platform for sustained institutional collaboration and knowledge exchange going forward.
The visit further underscored LWC’s commitment, under the leadership of Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, to forging meaningful partnerships with reputable infrastructure stakeholders in pursuit of sustainable water infrastructure development, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced service delivery across Lagos State.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from both organisations to maintain open communication, strengthen technical coordination, and explore further opportunities for collaboration.
