The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) says rehabilitation works at the Iju Waterworks are progressing steadily as part of the state’s broader efforts to restore ageing water infrastructure and improve potable water supply across Lagos.
The Corporation’s Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, made the assessment during a routine inspection of the Iju Headworks on Tuesday, where he reviewed ongoing rehabilitation activities, including the installation of new pumping equipment under the Lagos Water Renewal Programme.
The programme is designed to restore production capacity at key water treatment facilities while strengthening the reliability of public water supply across the state.
During the inspection, Tijani met with production managers and representatives of KSB Pumps, the project’s contractor, and received updates on the delivery and installation of critical equipment.
According to the Managing Director, the rehabilitation includes the procurement and installation of six new clear water pumps and one pump head to replace ageing equipment at the facility.
“Procurement has been completed, all the equipment has been delivered to site, and installation is progressing according to schedule,” Tijani said, describing the visit as part of the Corporation’s routine project monitoring process.
He noted that similar rehabilitation efforts are planned for the Akute Waterworks, where the Corporation intends to install two new raw water pumps with a combined abstraction capacity of 24 million gallons per day (MGD).
The pumps, he said, are expected to arrive before the end of August, after which installation activities will commence.

Tijani also commended KSB Pumps for the progress recorded on the Iju rehabilitation project, expressing optimism that the facility would return to higher production levels upon completion.
Responding on behalf of the contractor, Engr. John Adetayo Gbadegesin, Project Manager at KSB Pumps, said the company remained committed to completing the project within the agreed timeline.
He said the rehabilitation is intended to restore the operational capacity of the Iju Waterworks and support improved access to potable water for Lagos residents.
Earlier during the inspection, the Production Manager of Iju Waterworks, Engr. Balogun Kamar, led the delegation through the facility’s Clear Water Stations 1 and 2 as well as the Power House.
The inspection team also included the Executive Director (Operations), Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo; Director of Production, Engr. Agiri Mustapha; Director and Production Manager of Adiyan Waterworks, Engr. Olowe Julius; Director and Production Manager of Akute Waterworks, Engr. Olajide Kolawole; KSB Pumps Project Lead, Engr. Ebenezer Abbeku; and other senior officials.
Kamar reported that all required equipment had been delivered to the site and that installation work was advancing as planned. He expressed confidence that the rehabilitation would be completed by October 2026, enabling increased water production and more reliable water supply to consumers.
The rehabilitation of Iju Waterworks forms part of the Lagos Water Corporation’s Strategic Business Plan (2025–2030), which seeks to modernise critical water infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and expand access to sustainable public water services in one of Africa’s fastest-growing urban centres.
The project is also expected to strengthen the resilience of Lagos’ municipal water system as demand for potable water continues to increase alongside rapid population growth and urban expansion.
