Dangote, Sinoma sign $800m pact to expand Itori cement plant
The Dangote Industries Ltd. and Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd. have signed an $800 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand the Dangote Cement Plant in Itori, Ogun.
The expansion will increase the plant’s production capacity from six million to 12 million metric tonnes annually.
The agreement was signed by the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of Sinoma, Lin Zhong.
The project is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading cement producer and enhance its export capacity to regional and international markets.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dangote described the project as a major milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy.
He said the investment underscored Dangote Group’s commitment to Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic development.
Dangote thanked President Bola Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
He attributed the expansion to the Federal Government’s drive to promote the use of concrete in road construction and the company’s export ambitions across Africa.
According to him, the project aligns with Dangote Cement’s Vision 2030 target of producing between 90 million and 100 million metric tonnes of cement annually.
He said the expansion would improve the company’s ability to meet growing domestic demand while boosting exports.
Dangote added that the project would generate foreign exchange, create jobs and stimulate economic growth across Africa.
He said the partnership with Sinoma had delivered several world-class cement plants and reflected confidence in Nigeria’s economy.
“The expansion of our Itori plant represents another bold step in strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforcing our leadership in Africa’s cement industry.
“It will significantly increase our export capacity and generate valuable foreign exchange for the country,” he said.
Dangote said the investment demonstrated the group’s confidence in the Nigerian economy and its commitment to regional trade.
In his remarks, Sinoma Chairman, Lin Zhong, described the agreement as another milestone in the long-standing partnership between both companies.
He said Sinoma would deploy advanced engineering expertise and technology to ensure successful execution of the project.
According to him, the expansion will improve Dangote Cement’s competitiveness and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a manufacturing and export hub in Africa.
He added that the project reflected growing international confidence in Nigeria’s industrial sector.
Lin said strategic partnerships remained critical to driving industrialisation, infrastructure development and sustainable economic growth across the continent.
The Itori expansion is part of Dangote Cement’s strategy to increase production capacity, improve operational efficiency and expand export-driven growth.
On completion, the facility is expected to serve as a major production and export hub, supplying cement to domestic and international markets.
