Shell Nigeria and its renewable energy subsidiary, Daystar Power, received two awards at the 25th Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition held in Abuja, in recognition of their contributions to diversity, inclusion and sustainable energy development.
Shell Nigeria won the Equality in Energy Award, while Daystar Power was presented with the Sustainability in Energy Award for its work in advancing renewable energy solutions across Nigeria and other West African markets.
The awards were presented during activities marking the silver jubilee edition of NOG Energy Week, which brought together policymakers, industry leaders, regulators and investors to discuss developments and future opportunities in Nigeria’s energy sector.
According to Shell, the Equality in Energy Award reflects its efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion across its operations. The company has, in recent years, increased the representation of women in leadership positions, including the recent appointment of former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), Elohor Aiboni, as Executive Vice President and Country Chair for Nigeria.
Aiboni, who assumes office next month, becomes the first Nigerian to hold the combined position.
Daystar Power, which operates as Shell’s renewable energy business in Africa, provides solar and hybrid power solutions to commercial and industrial customers in Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. The Sustainability in Energy Award recognises the company’s role in expanding access to cleaner energy solutions for businesses across the region.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Bayo Ojulari, congratulated the award recipients and commended the collaboration among stakeholders that contributed to the success of the conference.
Shell was also among the major sponsors of the 2026 NOG Energy Week, where it hosted an exhibition showcasing its operations and organised an industry dinner attended by conference participants.
In remarks delivered on his behalf by General Manager, Wells and Geoscience Operations Nigeria, Joseph Mordi, Shell’s Executive Vice President, Nigeria and Country Chair, Marno de Jong, said the company would continue to support the growth of Nigeria’s energy industry through investments in deepwater oil and gas production, integrated gas, renewable energy and power solutions.
“We will continue to play our role in developing the industry and help to promote economic growth in Nigeria through the efficient delivery of our businesses in deepwater oil and gas production, integrated gas, renewables and power solutions,” he said.
