The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Retail Limited recently hosted the NNPC Retail Business Transformation Summit 2026 in Abuja, bringing together major stakeholders across Nigeria’s downstream energy and retail ecosystem for strategic conversations on the future of fuel retailing, mobility and customer experience.
Held under the theme, **“Beyond the Pump: Co-creating the Future of the Retail Forecourt,”** the summit served as a high-level platform for industry leaders, dealers, financial institutions, technology providers and strategic partners to examine how Nigeria’s retail energy landscape can evolve beyond traditional fuel sales into more diversified, customer-driven and technology-enabled business models.
The summit, which took place at the PTDF Auditorium, attracted participants from across the country and reinforced NNPC Retail Limited’s ongoing transformation drive aimed at reshaping the nation’s retail forecourt experience.
Delivering the welcome address, the Executive Director, Retail Operations & Mobility, NNPC Retail Limited, Baba Shettima Kukawa, emphasized the growing urgency for innovation and operational transformation within Nigeria’s downstream sector.
According to him, the era where filling stations depended solely on fuel sales for profitability is rapidly fading, especially as customer expectations continue to evolve and operational realities become more demanding.
He explained that the future of the retail forecourt would increasingly depend on diversification, technology integration, strategic collaborations and superior customer service delivery.
Kukawa noted that NNPC Retail Limited’s transformation agenda is focused on repositioning retail outlets into profitable lifestyle and convenience hubs capable of generating sustainable value beyond petroleum products.
The summit also witnessed the participation of top NNPC executives, including the Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Ltd, Dr Mumuni Dagazau, whose presence further reflected the corporation’s broader commitment to innovation, sustainability and long-term growth within the downstream sector.
Speaking during the summit, the Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited, Mr Huub Stokman, reiterated the company’s vision of building a resilient, digitally enabled and globally competitive retail network capable of meeting the changing needs of modern consumers.
He stressed the importance of embracing digital transformation, operational efficiency and customer-focused innovation as essential pillars for the future sustainability of the retail business.
The summit featured a series of masterclasses, panel sessions and strategic engagements focused on:

One of the major highlights of the summit was the interactive “Deal Room,” where dealers engaged directly with financial institutions, technology providers and Non-Fuel Retail (NFR) partners to explore investment opportunities and business expansion models aligned with evolving consumer behaviour and retail trends.
The summit eventually climaxed with a colourful Award and Recognition Dinner held on May 22, 2026, where outstanding retailers across the NNPC Retail dealer network were honoured for excellence, performance and exceptional customer service delivery.
Cash rewards ranging from Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) to Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000) were presented to deserving awardees in recognition of their dedication, consistency and operational excellence.
Several award recipients expressed appreciation to the management of NNPC Retail Limited for acknowledging their efforts and contributions toward strengthening the company’s retail network across the country.
The evening closed on a celebratory note as guests, stakeholders and participants enjoyed live entertainment and musical performances by popular Nigerian music group, Style Plus, whose energetic performance added excitement and glamour to the memorable gathering.
