As Nigeria accelerates efforts toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, leading energy entrepreneur and Managing Director of Sahara Group, Engr. Kola Adesina, is set to headline the 2026 Oriental News National Conference focused on decarbonisation in Nigeria’s extractive industry.
The high-level energy and climate summit, organised by Oriental News Nigeria, will hold on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos. The conference is expected to convene policymakers, regulators, oil and gas operators, manufacturers, financiers, and sustainability experts to examine pathways for reducing carbon emissions across Nigeria’s industrial sectors.
The conference theme, “Carbon Capture: Accelerating Decarbonization Initiatives in Nigeria’s Extractive Industry Through Broad Regulatory Reforms,” aligns with ongoing national climate policy reforms, including efforts by the National Assembly to advance the National Decarbonization Bill and strengthen implementation of the Climate Change Act 2021. The summit also comes amid increasing industry focus on the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission’s (NUPRC) Decarbonisation Blueprint for the upstream oil and gas sector.
Adesina, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s energy sector and former Chairman of Egbin Power Plc, is expected to lead discussions on fossil fuel emissions, energy transition strategies, and private sector investments driving low-carbon growth. Sahara Group’s net-zero strategy, which targets carbon neutrality by 2060, focuses on cleaner energy adoption, operational efficiency, natural gas expansion, renewable energy investments, and large-scale reforestation initiatives across multiple regions.
The summit will further explore financing challenges, operational sustainability, climate risk management, and investment opportunities shaping Nigeria’s decarbonisation agenda. Energy experts are expected to assess global oil and gas transition trends, emission reduction pressures on developing economies, and strategies for balancing industrial growth with environmental sustainability.
Speaking ahead of the event, Convener and Publisher of Oriental News Nigeria, Mrs. Yemisi Izuora, said the conference was designed to create a strategic platform for dialogue among stakeholders in the energy, finance, and industrial sectors. According to her, the initiative aims to support regulatory reforms, investment mobilisation, and sustainable economic development through practical environmental solutions.
Now in its fifth edition, the Oriental News National Conference has evolved into a major platform for discussing sustainability challenges within Nigeria’s oil and gas, manufacturing, and petrochemical sectors. This year’s edition will feature keynote presentations, policy dialogues, panel sessions, and technical discussions focused on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), hydrogen technologies, alternative fuels, renewable energy integration, and digital innovations supporting industrial decarbonisation.
Participants are also expected to examine regulatory gaps, financing constraints, and implementation challenges affecting Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy, while identifying opportunities for collaboration between government, industry, and investors.
