In commemoration of World Malaria Day 2026, Ikeja Electric has reinforced its commitment to public health and community wellbeing through targeted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Abule-Egba and Odogunyan communities in Lagos State.
Aligned with the 2026 theme, “Driven to end malaria: Now we can. Now we must,” the outreach programme focused on malaria prevention, community sensitization, and access to basic healthcare services—key priorities in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against malaria.
As part of the World Malaria Day outreach in Lagos, residents of Abule-Egba and Odogunyan benefited from:
- Free malaria testing and diagnosis
- Distribution of antimalarial medications
- Provision of insecticide-treated mosquito nets
- Health education on malaria prevention and early treatment
Community members were also educated on causes and symptoms of malaria, importance of environmental sanitation, proper use of mosquito nets and need for prompt medical attention
This initiative highlights the role of private sector intervention in malaria control in Nigeria, where the disease remains a major public health challenge.
Speaking on the initiative, Kingsley Okotie, spokesperson for Ikeja Electric, emphasized the company’s broader responsibility beyond power distribution:
“At Ikeja Electric, we recognize that our responsibility goes beyond providing electricity. We are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our customers through initiatives that promote healthier communities.”
He added that sustained awareness, access to preventive tools, and stakeholder collaboration are critical to reducing malaria prevalence in Nigeria.
In addition to the health outreach, Ikeja Electric issued a public safety advisory ahead of the rainy season, warning of increased risks associated with:
- Flooded electrical installations
- Exposed or fallen power lines
- Electric shock incidents
Residents are advised to avoid contact with electrical infrastructure during rainfall, stay away from damaged or fallen wires and also ensure electrical installations are protected from water exposure
The World Malaria Day initiative underscores Ikeja Electric’s continued focus on:
