The NNPC Foundation Limited has been awarded the CSR Champion Award for Health 2025 by the Independent Newspapers, following a series of large-scale health interventions that have directly impacted thousands of Nigerians.
The award was presented at the Silver Jubilee edition of the Independent Newspapers Awards, themed “Game Changers: Breaking Barriers and Shaping Tomorrow,” held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The recognition highlights the Foundation’s expanding footprint in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, particularly its free cataract screening and surgical programme, which has restored sight to over 6,000 Nigerians, including children born blind.
Beyond eye care, the Foundation has implemented a range of medical and social interventions, including:
- Cancer and glaucoma screening and treatment programmes
- Medical outreach services in underserved communities
- Renovation and furnishing of three hospital wards with 100 beds at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi
- Sponsorship and partnership for life-saving heart surgeries
- Distribution of dental care kits to children in special schools
These initiatives form part of a broader CSR strategy spanning health, education, environmental sustainability, and energy access.
According to the Foundation, the scale of its interventions has been made possible through sustained institutional backing from NNPC Limited, alongside partnerships with healthcare providers and development stakeholders.
Reacting to the recognition, Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of the Foundation, described the award as a validation of its impact-driven approach to social investment.
“This recognition reflects the trust Nigerians have placed in our work and the value they see in purposeful social investment,” she said.

Analysts note that sustained private sector investment in healthcare, especially through structured CSR programmes, will play a critical role in bridging service delivery gaps and advancing national development outcomes.
