Members of the Nigerian Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC) have elected a new executive committee to lead the association for the next two years, returning Ugochukwu Amadi of Champion Newspapers as National Chairman and Adeola Yusuf, Publisher of Platforms Africa, as Vice Chairman.
The election, conducted at the association’s secretariat in Lagos on Saturday March 14 2026, drew strong participation from members and concluded with the re-election of Peter Uzoho of ThisDay Newspapers as General Secretary and Anthony Ebigie of Energy News Stream as Treasurer.
Newly elected members of the executive committee include Waliat Musa of The Guardian, who emerged as Financial Secretary, and Oredola Adeola of Advisors Reports, elected as Public Relations Officer.
Speaking after the announcement of the results, Amadi pledged to deepen institutional growth within NAEC and expand the association’s engagement across Nigeria’s energy landscape. He stressed the need to strengthen collaboration among energy journalists while promoting professionalism in reporting on developments across the country’s evolving energy sector.
He also outlined plans to broaden NAEC’s engagement with key stakeholders through structured dialogue, industry interaction, and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at improving coverage of developments across Nigeria’s energy value chain.
Amadi thanked members of the association for their renewed confidence in the leadership team and assured that the new executive would adopt an inclusive approach in decision-making and program implementation.
“We are grateful for the trust reposed in us. Our commitment is to ensure that every member is carried along as we work together to strengthen the association and advance the role of energy journalism in Nigeria,” he said.
Also speaking, General Secretary Uzoho reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to a member-focused agenda designed to promote professional development, encourage collaboration, and expand opportunities for journalists covering the energy sector.
“Our focus will be on strengthening partnerships, enhancing knowledge exchange, and creating platforms that support the growth and professional advancement of our members,” he said.
