Residents across several parts of Lagos are currently experiencing a temporary disruption in water supply following planned repair works at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant, the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has confirmed.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, the Corporation said the interruption became necessary to allow for urgent repair and replacement works on a major raw water pipeline supplying the facility.
According to LWC, the affected areas include Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Aromire, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege, and parts of Lagos Island.
Why the shutdown was necessary
The Corporation explained that the repairs are focused on a leakage along the ND1600mm Adiyan raw water pipeline located at the Akute Intake Station. The pipeline plays a critical role in supplying raw water to the Adiyan I treatment facility, one of Lagos State’s major water production plants.
LWC noted that the persistent leakage has been negatively impacting the ongoing Adiyan Phase II Water Project, a major infrastructure expansion designed to significantly boost potable water supply across the state.
According to the statement, continuous water discharge from the damaged pipeline has saturated the surrounding soil, weakening ground stability and creating safety risks for heavy construction equipment such as cranes and excavators currently deployed at the site.
Temporary shutdown to protect infrastructure and workers
To ensure safe working conditions and prevent further damage, the Lagos Water Corporation said it had no option but to temporarily shut down the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant while repair and replacement works are carried out.
The shutdown, the Corporation explained, is a precautionary measure to allow for the safe and effective execution of construction activities related to the Adiyan II intake works.
Restoration expected soon
LWC assured residents that technical teams are working intensively to complete the repairs as quickly as possible. The Corporation added that water supply to the affected areas will be restored once the works are concluded.
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused, the Corporation urged residents to bear with the temporary disruption, noting that the intervention is necessary to safeguard critical infrastructure and support long-term improvements in water supply across Lagos.
