Thirty-two journalists drawn from diverse media organisations in Abuja have strengthened their digital reporting and artificial intelligence (AI) competencies following a three-day strategic capacity-building workshop organised by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) under its flagship #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative.
The workshop, which concluded on Wednesday, focused on equipping media professionals with practical skills to navigate the rapidly evolving digital newsroom, where artificial intelligence, speed, accuracy, and audience trust are increasingly shaping journalistic practice.
According to NLNG, the training underscores the company’s sustained commitment to media capacity development as a core component of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda, aimed at promoting professionalism, innovation, and responsible storytelling within Nigeria’s media ecosystem.
Through a mix of hands-on exercises and expert-led discussions, participants explored the application of AI-driven tools and digital communication strategies for real-time reporting, cross-platform content distribution, data-supported storytelling, and audience engagement beyond national borders.
Speaking during the workshop, Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, reaffirmed the company’s focus on capacity development as a strategic pillar of its CSR programme.
She noted that the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative continues to empower journalists with the skills, confidence, and ethical grounding required to produce professional, impactful media content in an increasingly fast-paced and technology-driven environment.
Horsfall described journalism as a vital public service that informs, educates, and influences society, urging participants to deploy their newly acquired skills to amplify credible narratives that drive understanding and positive change. She expressed confidence that journalists trained under the initiative would continue to enlighten the public while fostering constructive engagement through stories aligned with NLNG’s vision of being a globally competitive energy company committed to improving lives sustainably.
She also highlighted NLNG’s broader support for media development in Nigeria, including its sponsorship of the NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME), among other long-standing interventions.
Earlier, in her opening remarks, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at NLNG, emphasised that the company’s investments in media capacity building are intentional and impact-driven.
She explained that the workshop was designed to go beyond theoretical learning by addressing real-world newsroom pressures such as speed, verification, relevance, and audience trust in the digital age.
“Our support for these competencies is aimed at strengthening a resilient media ecosystem that delivers accurate, responsible, and impactful journalism capable of shaping public understanding and contributing meaningfully to national development,” Palmer-Ikuku said.
The training was facilitated by digital communication specialist Dan Mason, alongside the Journalism Clinic led by veteran journalist Taiwo Obe. Together, they guided participants through practical modules on digital storytelling, data visualisation, online fact-checking, audience analytics, and effective digital presence management.
Since its inception, the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative has empowered more than 180 journalists nationwide with enhanced digital communication and social media skills, reinforcing NLNG’s role as a key private-sector partner in strengthening Nigeria’s media capacity in a digital era.

This is a topic close to my heart cheers, where are your contact details though?
