Organizers of the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) have confirmed the participation of several African Heads of State for its 2026 edition; signalling a renewed continental commitment to reshaping Africa’s energy systems as a catalyst for economic resilience, regional stability, and long-term development.
According to a statement released to newsmen, confirmed leaders include His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, and His Excellency Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. The 2026 Summit will be hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who will serve as Chief Host.
Organisers say the growing presence of sitting Heads of State reflects NIES’ evolution beyond a traditional industry gathering into a high-level policy and investment forum where Africa’s energy future—across hydrocarbons, gas, power, and emerging low-emissions pathways—is actively shaped.
“The confirmation of African Heads of State for NIES 2026 is a powerful validation of the Summit’s credibility and strategic relevance,” noted Dr. James Shindi, Chief Executive Officer of Brevity Anderson and Project Director of NIES. “NIES has become a trusted convening platform where leadership, policy coordination, and capital mobilisation intersect to address Africa’s energy security and development priorities.”
Now in its ninth edition, the Nigeria International Energy Summit positions itself as the only energy industry platform officially endorsed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, underscoring its national and continental importance. The Summit has increasingly positioned itself at the intersection of energy access, industrial growth, climate responsibility, and investment readiness—issues central to Africa’s development trajectory.
NIES 2026 is expected to attract senior government officials and heads of delegation from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas, alongside executives of global and indigenous energy companies, development finance institutions, multilateral partners, and representatives of host communities. This broad participation reflects the Summit’s emphasis on inclusive, cross-sector engagement and balanced energy solutions that align economic growth with environmental stewardship.
The organisers also acknowledged the critical role of strategic partners—including international and national energy companies, global service providers, financial institutions, and development partners—whose continued engagement has strengthened NIES’ role as a platform for policy dialogue, investment facilitation, and regional collaboration.
Scheduled to hold in Abuja from 2–5 February 2026, the Summit will convene under the theme “Energy for Peace and Prosperity: Securing Our Shared Future.” Discussions will focus on accelerating energy access, expanding gas-to-power and industrial value chains, strengthening power infrastructure, reducing emissions intensity, and mobilising finance for scalable and bankable energy solutions across the continent.
“Our focus is on turning ambition into execution,” said Kunle Odusola-Stevenson, Conference Producer for NIES. “Energy must continue to serve as a foundation for stability, shared prosperity, and sustainable development—not only for Nigeria, but for Africa as a whole.”
The Nigeria International Energy Summit is an annual high-level convening platform that brings together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, development partners, and communities to drive action-oriented dialogue and partnerships capable of delivering Africa’s evolving energy future.
