Mrs. Soludo calls for visits, emotional support to orphanages, welfare homes
Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called on individuals and organisations to regularly visit orphanages and welfare homes to support vulnerable groups, listen to their struggles and attend to their physical and emotional needs.
Soludo made the call on Monday while hosting a Christmas party for children and adults in orphanage and welfare homes across the state.
She emphasised that beyond material donations, personal presence and interaction with residents of such homes are critical in giving them a sense of belonging, love and hope.
According to her, many children and adults in orphanages and welfare centres face emotional trauma, neglect and social isolation.
She said these challenges could only be addressed through consistent human connection, encouragement and understanding.
“Visiting orphanages and welfare homes should not be limited to festive periods alone.
“We must make it a habit to visit, listen to their stories, understand their challenges and respond to their needs both physically and emotionally
“While the party is going on , I will be having a one-on-one conversation with the teenagers in the orphanage homes to better understand their struggles and explore ways we can support them,”she said.
Soludo said that emotional support, counselling and reassurance are as important as providing food, clothing and other essentials.
She noted that such gestures could positively shape the outlook and future of the beneficiaries.
She however, urged well-meaning individuals to complement government efforts by adopting homes and sponsoring healthcare and education.
She also encouraged engaging the vulnerable in meaningful conversations and activities that promote dignity and self-worth.
The governor’s wife reaffirmed the commitment of her Healthy Living Initiative to promoting the welfare, protection and holistic development of vulnerable persons across the state.
She encouraged residents to imbibe a culture of compassion and shared responsibility, especially during the yuletide season, by reaching out to those in need and ensuring that no one is left behind.
Also speaking, Mrs Ify Obinabo, the State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, commended the caregivers at the homes for their sacrifices.
The event featured dance competitions, carol singing, drama performances, visits to Santa Claus, and the distribution of Christmas gifts to the children.
